How do I stop replaying bad memories?
Sometimes it is very difficult to stop replaying bad memories. One of my bad memories as a child is when I lost my aunt Norma. We had a magical connection, and she was also my godmother. After school, I would discuss all the events that occurred during the day. She was a pleasure to talk to and a great confidant.
The bad memory that keeps replaying is the day I came home from school and my aunt was unable to have a conversation with me because she was in such bad pain. I heard her screaming in pain, and those thoughts saddened me and brought tears to my eyes.
Three ways to stop replaying bad memories.

  1. I changed my thoughts about Aunt Norma from negative to positive.
  2. I think about the great advice she gave me about life.
  3. I think about the flowers that used to bring a smile on her face.
Replacing bad memories is not healthy. It hurts, and it ruins our mood. As people, we should all try to change our negative memories into positive ones.
